What do I wear?

A swimming costume or clothes you would normally wear exercising. If you choose to wear exercise clothes, make sure you are comfortable for these to get wet in case you do fall in.

Do I need sun protection?

Yes! Make sure you are well protected and bring a hat, rashvest & sunscreen. (Note that according to the Cancer Council’s 5 Steps to Apply Sunscreen Correctly, sunscreen should be applied 20 minutes before going outside.

What do I do with my valuables?

Your SUP instructor will be wearing a waterproof pouch which can be used to store your car keys and phone.

This pouch is quite small, so please endeavour to minimise what you need to bring.

I would like photos, should I bring my phone?

To avoid you having to take your phone on the water, your SUP instructor will take pictures and send them to you at the end of the session.

Where can I get changed?

Ideally arrive ready to paddle as there is nowhere to on the beach to get changed.

You can got to the public toilets at Steyne Park. (described below)

Any gear such as towels can be left on the beach.

If you need to store more items, ask about this. There is an option, it is safe, but not or locked, so will be at your own risk.

Where are the closest public toilets?

Steyne Park that is adjacent to Double Bay beach.

Where can I park?

Note parking can be difficult, so please factor this in, and allow sufficient time to find a car park, so that you can be on time for your lesson.

Free, 2 hour street parking

  • Beach Road, William Street, Stafford Street, Pearce Street and Bay Street, below William Street. (Parts of some streets offer unlimited parking, so check the signs carefully.)

Can I catch public transport?

  • Edgecliff Train station, 15 minute walk

  • Double Bay Ferry wharf, 5 minute walk

What if the weather is unsuitable?

Safe paddle conditions usually mean wind below 10 knots and limited swell. The weather forecast is used to determine what days and times are likely to provide suitable paddling times for the week ahead. If the forecast changes and weather conditions make it unsafe to paddle you will be contacted and given the option to re-schedule your session or get a full refund.
