About Me

A Double Bay local for 20 years I’ve been stand up paddling the local bays since 2010.

I love everything about paddling!

I’ve dabbled in competitive paddling, but these days my favourite time on a board is a leisurely paddle with friends, ideally with a coffee stop!

I learnt to stand up paddle when there was a fantastic SUP School & instructor, Dave (Belly) Bell, based at Rose Bay. Belly not only introduced numerous people to the sport, but created an incredible community around paddling.

A big driver behind starting Double Bay Stand Up Paddle is my desire to build on that community for paddlers in the east.

Community means helping you find fellow paddlers to connect with, no matter what your interest - be it social paddles, fitness paddles, competitive paddles, or getting together to explore other waterways around Sydney.

In 2020 I completed training and became accredited by the Academy of Surf Instructors (ASI) as a Level 1 & Level 2 SUP instructor.

Benefits of choosing an ASI accredited instructor

Being an instructor accredited by ASI, the international peak body for SUP instructors means I am trained to get you enjoying paddling quickly and safely.

To remain certified I am obliged to:

  • hold current water rescue and senior first aid qualifications

  • abide by rigorous safety and risk management practices

  • implement minimal environmental impact practices

  • keep my skills up to date and renew my instructor accreditation annually

About Stand Up Paddling

There is no simpler way to get on the water than on a stand up paddle board

“There are very few sports where you can just walk out onto the water, stand on a board, put a paddle in your hand and move forward.”

Anyone can do it

Virtually anyone, of any age or fitness level can do it, and it doesn’t take much to be able to stand and start paddling.

It’s so flexible

The great thing about SUP is that you choose what you want it to be:

  • all about the views, the sunrises, the sunsets, the silence, time well spent with friends, or

  • all about your core, toning or getting your heart rate up

It can be anything!

  • relaxed and social

  • fitness oriented and challenging

  • deeply relaxing & meditative

Benefits

  • it’s a full body exercise - virtually every muscle is used

  • it’s fantastic for your core

  • it’s a low impact

  • it’s gives you a whole new perspective on Sydney Harbour

  • it’s the ultimate ‘socially distant’ exercise
